BATON ROUGE — School’s out and all LSU’s baseball team has to worry about it is baseball, but be careful what you wish for. The Tigers got a taste of what they will see should they play in the minor leagues. LSU defeated the University of New Orleans 7-6 in 15 innings in a five-hour, 14-minute marathon that started Tuesday night at Zephyr Field in Metairie and ended at 12:22 a.m. Wednesday. The game started nearly two hours before the New Orleans Hornets NBA playoff game downtown and ended about an hour afterwards.
After showers, the players boarded a bus for Opelika, Ala., in order to open a three-game series at Auburn at 6 tonight. The Tigers arrived at their hotel at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
“I can’t really tell you how we are right now,” LSU coach Paul Mainieri said on the weekly Southeastern Conference teleconference shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday. “I got 25 guys sleeping right now.”

With rookie mini-camps underway, many NFL teams are getting a first look at their investments from this past April’s draft. The Oakland Raiders are no different.
Of course the highlight of camp in Alameda, California has to be former Arkansas Razorback, and fourth-overall pick, Darren McFadden, who had a stellar college career and an equally impressive pre-draft combine.
The Raiders' mini-camp was the first chance for the coaching staff and public alike to get a glimpse of McFadden in the pros, and the young rookie only confirmed what most already knew, that he is fast and versatile.Head coach Lane Kiffin, who helped mastermind the “Thunder and Lightning” offence of USC’s BCS National Championship, was “wowed” at his new running back’s skill set, and has already begun discussing his plans to utilize the two time Heisman runner-up’s unique and versatile abilities, stating that fans and opponents should expect to see him not only line up at halfback, but receiver and possibly quarterback on a few gadget plays.

Southern Miss, fresh off a 16-5 loss at South Alabama, got some good news Wednesday morning - its dream of hosting an NCAA Regional is still alive.
The Golden Eagles, who entered the game with a No. 13 RPI, only dropped two slots to No. 15 heading into today's first game of a Conference USA series at Alabama-Birmingham.
UAB has a RPI of 171.
That means a Hattiesburg Regional is still a strong possibility, considering the NCAA Tournament has 16 host sites across the nation in two weeks.

Numerous players worked at the minicamp on a tryout basis, without contract, in addition to the Saints' six draft picks and a host of signed undrafted rookies. Two of the new players are rookies, two more are street free agents.
LSU OL Carnell Stewart is from John Curtis high school and was raised in River Ridge, Louisiana. A bookend right tackle for the national champion Tigers. He played only two years of offense at tackle, starting as a senior, and spent the first three years of his college career at defensive tackle. Stewart, 6'5, 290 pounds, originally signed with the Giants after the draft but failed his physical and was cut. The other rookie is Troy DT Marcus Pittman, 22, 6'4, 285 pounds, was a part-time starter and a juco transfer.

Troubled LSU QB Perrilloux transfers to Jacksonville State
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3396155
Troubled ex-LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux may have found a place where he can get the playing time he craves.
Perrilloux has transferred to Jacksonville State, where he will have the inside track for the starting quarterback job next season.
Perrilloux was dismissed from LSU earlier this month after repeated off-the-field problems. The Gamecocks do not have a scholarship quarterback on their roster and since Perrilloux is transferring to a Football Championship Subdivision team, he won't have to sit out next season.
He has two years of eligibility remaining.
"Basically, I just see this as a second opportunity to be successful," Perrilloux told The Birmingham News.
