Mississippi to receive $582 million in RESTORE Act funds

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 16, 2015

Mississippi gets millions for restoration projects

The $582 million will begin flowing to Mississippi in 2017 under the Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourism Opportunities and Revived Economies Act, also known as the RESTORE Act. Congress passed the law in 2012 to direct that 80 percent of spill-related fine money levied under the Clean Water Act go to the states and communities that suffered the most damage.

State officials haven’t decided yet on final projects but plan to focus on improving water quality, protecting and restoring marine resources and buying land to protect habitats. Officials will seek public comment and host public meetings throughout the state.
