Ward 4 hopefuls compete among crowded field
With seven registered candidates, the Ward 4 race has the largest field of any contest with an incumbent seeking re-election to the Jackson City Council.
The race to represent the ward has drawn new and old faces, each with plans to be attentive to the needs of residents in some of the city’s oldest neighborhoods.
Jacqueline Amos-Norris
Amos-Norris, 42, is a new face to local politics, but she is familiar with government, having spent the past eight years as a judicial assistant for Mississippi Justice James Graves.
Amos-Norris left that post last year to prepare her run for office and spent several months interning at City Hall “to get a feel for what I was about to get into.”
“I had questions about how our city was being run,” she said. “It opened my eyes to a lot of things.”
Amos-Norris said she wants to go to City Hall to mediate, work with her fellow elected officials and break what she sees as a political logjam.
