CL: Hood: Barbour ‘sold out’ children

Gov. Haley Barbour “sold out Mississippi’s children” when he vetoed a bill dealing with lead paint and children’s toys, Attorney General Jim Hood said in a statement urging the Legislature to override the governor’s decision. Barbour took action on House Bill 1240 last week. It takes a two-thirds vote in both chambers to pass a bill the governor has vetoed. In a news release, Barbour said the legislation would undermine tort reform laws. Enactment of the bill “will result in hindering the positive results of the Tort Reform Act of 2004 in ending lawsuit abuse in Mississippi,” Barbour said.
