Being college football’s No 1 is a dangerous place to be

College football’s weekend, in four quarters.
First quarter. Alabama … Ohio State … Oklahoma. Being No. 1 in one ranking or another has been unhealthier than high cholesterol. And just in time to make it four weeks in a row, Oregon must go to USC this week, where the Trojans get to try out their new role — spoiler.
The best defense against joining this long gray line is probably a spectacular offense.
The Ducks are averaging 55.1 points. That’s more than Dartmouth averaged in basketball last season.
They’ve scored 386 points in seven games — more than they have ever scored in nine games.
