Because private fund-raising efforts have fallen short, the city of Jackson could pay for the bulk of a study to recommend where to put an arena and how to finance it.
Private donors had pledged around $70,000 as recently as May to help pay for the $109,000 feasibility study, with additional fundraising efforts coming from the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership.
But Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. told the Jackson City Council last week that only around $17,000 had actually materialized, leaving the city with the choice of paying the difference if it wants the study done now.
