New law helps suspend teachers for sexual misconduct
Eight Mississippi educators have surrendered their licenses after getting notice that they had violated a state standard prohibiting sexual misconduct with students.
One educator’s license has been revoked. Eleven other similar cases are pending, said Cindy Coon, director of licensure for the state Department of Education.
The 20 cases all have stemmed from reports from school districts since House Bill 641 was signed into law in April and the state Board of Education approved in March an Educator Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct.
