SENATE PASSES FREEDOM OF CHOICE IN HEALTH CARE ACT
JACKSON – On the basis that government should not make healthcare decisions for citizens, legislation that restricts the state from requiring a healthcare mandate passed the Senate 46 to 5.
“People have the right to choose their own health care coverage, and government has no business mandating participation in any plan,” Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant said.
Known as the “Mississippi Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act,” the bill prohibits the Legislature from requiring any person to participate in a health care system or plan. It further says that the state may not impose a penalty or fine for choosing to obtain or decline health care coverage.
The legislation now heads to the Mississippi House of Representatives for consideration.
