Hosemann alerts dealers of air conditioner thefts

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — Mississippi scrap metal dealers are being warned of the theft of air conditioning units.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann says 50 air conditioner units were stolen or vandalized at Jackson schools earlier this week.

“You cannot get much worse than stealing from schoolchildren at the start of the school year,” says Hosemann. “Our agency wants to put all scrap metal dealers in the state on heightened alert for any attempt to sell air conditioning components whether altered or intact.”

Hosemann says he issued an alert on LeadsOnline, which is used for recording scrap metal transactions across the state.
