An amended bill passed in the Mississippi House Tuesday equates abortion of a fetus with a detectable heartbeat to child homicide.
House Judiciary B Chairman Andy Gipson, R-Braxton, successfully resurrected his “heartbeat” bill by amending a Senate bill to broaden its definition of child homicide to include some abortions.
“It would be disingenuous to say if you kill a 1-year-old child, it’s a crime, but it’s not a crime to kill a child that’s in the womb,” Gipson said. “I think there is a logical disconnect there.”
