The Mississippi Development Authority announced Wednesday that Mayo Clinic Laboratories is establishing operations in Southaven.
“Companies like Mayo Clinic Laboratories need more than a good location; they need the ability to get up and running without protracted decision-making,” said Mississippi Development Authority Executive Director Bill Cork. “Mississippi continues to deliver that advantage, and MDA is committed to helping companies turn investment decisions into operating facilities that create high-quality jobs and strengthen critical industries.”
Mayo Clinic Laboratories is investing over $30 million in its new Mississippi location while bringing 234 jobs to the northern region of the state. The jobs will be filled over the next few years, MDA noted.
From its new Southaven location, Mayo Clinic Laboratories, based in Rochester, Minnesota, plans to perform diagnostic testing for hospitals and clients to provide patients with accurate and timely results.
Governor Tate Reeves was proud to welcome the world-renowned organization to Mississippi.
“This project will create 234 new jobs in DeSoto County while further strengthening Mississippi’s healthcare and life sciences sectors,” Reeves said. “We’re proud to welcome Mayo Clinic Laboratories to our state and excited about the opportunities this investment will create for Mississippians.”
The company selected Southaven due in part to its location and the availability of a facility that can be quickly operational with equipment installation.
In May, Mayo Clinic Laboratories said the new facility would be located near the Memphis International Airport and the FedEx World Hub.
“This location was selected to support efficient national logistics and strengthen our ability to serve clients. The facility will operate in alignment with Mayo Clinic standards and will be integrated into our broader laboratory network,” the company said. “There are no immediate changes to ordering, logistics, or turnaround times. Clients should continue to use existing processes and contacts. Our commitment remains the same: consistent, high-quality testing [and] accurate, timely results.”
The Mississippi Development Authority noted that the state agency is providing assistance through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive, or MFLEX, program, while the city of Southaven and DeSoto County are assisting with the project as well.
MDA has also certified the company for the Health Care Industry Zone Incentive.
