“He and Recio are looking at a lot of time,” noted Peterson. “They’re up against some really shrew attorneys.”

Opening arguments in the federal trial against Melton and former bodyguard Michael Recio start Monday morning. This is the second trial for the men charged with federal crimes for destroying a Ridgeway Street duplex in 2006.

“There’s a likelihood of conviction but you still can’t get beyond the fact that you have an individual who for decades in this community has been very well known,” said Peterson. “They’re not going to be able to get past the thought that perhaps he was doing something that night.”
