It’s 100-1 odds that an applicant will land a job with the new Obama administration, if you just look at the statistics.
More than 330,000 people have applied for some 3,000-4,000 jobs likely to be filled as Barack Obama takes office Jan. 20.
“We’re just telling people to use www.change.gov,” said Dana Edelstein, a spokesman for U.S. Rep. Travis Childers of Booneville, when asked how the new Democratic congressman’s office is handling employment requests.
The jobs Obama will fill with political appointees, some needing Senate confirmation, are just a thin slice of the 1.6 million full-time federal jobs.
While the exact number of hires isn’t known, the Bush administration filled 3,300 such posts, a recent USAToday report noted. These presidentially appointed jobs typically vacate with a change of administrations.
Applicants also should understand that most of the job are in Washington, few in Mississippi.
