Game day can’t compare to USC’s Competition Tuesday
LOS ANGELES – It’s popular to say that Tuesday is just like Saturday for USC football, but it’s wrong.
Taunting and celebrations are permissible on Tuesday.
The Tuesday scoreboard is not on the peristyle end of the Coliseum, but in Pete Carroll’s head.
The Tuesday games are closer.
And, most Tuesdays, there are more real football players on both sides of the ball.
That might not be entirely true this Saturday, when Ohio State comes to town, but Competition Tuesday is often tougher than the games, since it matches the souped-up magnificence of the USC offense against the dark-hearted stubbornness of the USC defense.
“There’s no question that it can be a lot harder on Tuesday than Saturday,” said linebacker Kyle Moore, at the noon hour on Tuesday, revving himself for an afternoon in combat with more potential NFL draft choices than he’ll see in a month of actual games.
