Hopkins Raises $329,315 in 45 Days
In a strong showing of early support from Mississippians across the state, retired Major General Al Hopkins reported yesterday a total of $329,315 raised in 45 days since entering the race. In his first periodic financial report filed with the Secretary of State, Hopkins received contributions from 340 donors and saved $319,539 cash on hand.
?I?m humbled and overwhelmed by the support of so many fellow Mississippians who?ve stepped forward already to give their hearts, their time, and their hard-earned dollars to my campaign,? stated Hopkins. ?Throughout the state, Mississippians are telling me it?s time to get the politician out of the Attorney General?s office and replace him with someone whose tough but fair and whose sole ambition is justice for us all.?
During the same period incumbent Democrat Jim Hood reported raising $177,982 and saving $136,785 cash on hand. Hopkins and Hood are the only certified candidates in the race to be decided in the November 6 General Election.
Hopkins began his public service in 1965 when he joined the 31st Infantry Division as an enlisted man. During his last four years of service, he served as Assistant Adjutant General of the State of Mississippi and retired as a Major General. He is currently serving his second six-year term as Chief Judge of the Court of Military Appeals. A native of Tippah County, Hopkins resides in Gulfport with his wife Ruth and two grown children, Ashley Anne and Norris. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Gulfport where he has taught for over 30 years.
