Unseating an incumbent attorney general in Mississippi is, historically, difficult, but it appears the Coast’s own Al Hopkins is going to at the least give Jim Hood a run for his money.
Hood in his first run for AG four years ago had problems raising money. He once told me he really, really doesn’t like doing it. In the 11th hour of his last campaign, he had to take a $500,000 loan from some friends who have a furniture store to stay afloat. After he won, while most politicians could turn down the fundraising machines, Hood had to keep collecting to pay off debt.
