The Council has on its plate to scrutinize Police Chief Shirlene Anderson’s plan to hire 200 more police officers – a demonstrable need since the comprehensive 1999 Linder/Maple Group police study that said 680 was the minimum needed.
But, under Melton’s watch, there’s no money because the city has projected a $4.3 million revenue shortfall for the fiscal year that ends Sept. 30.

US and China take a step back from sky-high tariffs, agree to pause for 90 days
The U.S. has agreed to drop its 145% tariff rate on Chinese goods by 115 percentage points to 30%, while China has agreed to lower its rate on U.S. goods by the same amount to 10%.
