Gulfport lawyer Halil Suleyman Ozerden won unanimous confirmation from the U.S. Senate today to the bench on the U.S. District Court for South Mississippi, U.S. Sen. Trent Lott announced.
Ozerden graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Georgetown University?s School of Foreign Service. He attended the university on a Navy ROTC scholarship and, following graduation, served six years active duty as a commissioned officer and naval flight officer in the Navy, achieving the rank of lieutenant. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for missions flown over Iraq during ?Operation Southern Watch? and over Somalia during ?Operation Restore Hope.?

Senate passes bipartisan housing bill to improve access and affordability
