Ole Miss’ Jevan Snead is no stranger to UF
GAINESVILLE — A few years ago, it looked as though Jevan Snead was going to be the University of Florida’s quarterback of the future.
The Stephenville, Texas, high school standout had made an oral commitment to the Gators. Then Tim Tebow showed up, and Snead chose to go to Texas instead.
Two years later, after a transfer to Mississippi, Snead will finally get a chance to show Gainesville what it’s been missing for the last two years when the Rebels (2-2, 0-1 Southeastern Conference) take on the No. 4 Gators (3-0, 1-0 SEC) on Saturday. Florida barely beat Mississippi last season, winning 30-24 in Oxford.
Florida fans don’t mind how the team has performed with Tebow – a national championship in 2006 and a Heisman Trophy for the quarterback last season – and there is no way to tell if the same would have happened with Snead taking snaps.
But Florida coach Urban Meyer still likes the skill set that Snead brings to the table.
