BULLDOGS:Aggressiveness paying off

STARKVILLE – Jamar Chaney left a big hole in the middle of Mississippi State’s defense when he broke his leg, and it might be the smallest candidate who will fill it.
The Bulldogs are working three players at Chaney’s middle linebacker slot.

Last week, redshirt freshman Jamie Jones and true freshman Bo Walters were mentioned as most likely to take over the role. Then there was Karlin Brown, a 5-foot-9, 195-pound sophomore, who coaches figured would move into a backup role.
Now, it’s looking like he could emerge as the starter.
“Between him and Jamie, Karlin is probably a little more aggressive,” MSU coach Sylvester Croom said Tuesday. “He’s a little more experienced. He’s had more reps in practice at the position. Had he been practicing (with the first team), he probably would’ve gotten the nod last week.”
Brown, who made one tackle in seven games last year, was suspended the first game for missing too many classes. Now that he’s got a game under his belt, he’ll be pushing Jones and Walters for the No. 1 designation.
