REBELS:Swank’s FG overcomes late heroics for Snead

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Quarterback Jevan Snead led a clutch fourth-quarter drive for what the smaller collection of fans hoped was the game-winning touchdown.
However, the Ole Miss defense, improved in some aspects from a week ago, didn’t make the clutch plays at the end. No. 20 Wake Forest got a 41-yard field goal from Sam Swank with 3 seconds remaining to win 30-28 before a crowd of 31,986 at BB&T Field Saturday afternoon.

Snead threw four touchdown passes, the biggest a 5-yarder to running back Cordera Eason on a busted play with 1 minute, 1 second remaining. Joshua Shene’s PAT gave Ole Miss (1-1) a 28-27 lead.
But the ACC’s Demon Deacons covered 57 yards in 58 seconds – a drive kept alive when free safety Kendrick Lewis came open on a blitz but missed a sack against Wake quarterback Riley Skinner on a second-down play from the Ole Miss 44 with 24 seconds left.
Cornerback Marshay Green was called for pass interference on the play, and Wake Forest was moved 15 yards closer to the goal.
“We had several opportunities to put it away, not just with defense,” Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said. “Offense, you can’t have turnovers like that, and you can’t have those mishaps on special teams.
