Nick Saban should’ve cut Johns long before arrest
The college football career of Alabama quarterback-turned-tailback-turned-linebacker-turned-accused felon Jimmy Johns ended Tuesday morning in a jail cell.
One question, given the rap sheet he ran up long before he got cuffed and booked:
Why did he last this long?
It took an arrest on five counts of distributing cocaine and one count of possession of a controlled substance for Johns to be dismissed from the Alabama program.
Why didn’t Nick Saban wash his hands of this talented but troubled young man long before now, when he had a choice?
Saban, who was back at his Georgia lake house, wasn’t available Tuesday to answer that question. Hopefully, he was asking it of himself.
