Sojourner concedes in District 37 Senate race
Incumbent Republican state Sen. Melanie Sojourner of Natchez is saying she doesn’t have enough votes to hold onto her seat.
Sojourner has been locked in a heated re-election battle against Democrat Bob Dearing, who she ousted four years ago.
After last week’s general election, in unofficial returns, Sojourner had a slim lead over Dearing, but absentee and affidavit ballots hadn’t been counted at that time. The process of counting the paper ballots and trying to determine a winner has been ongoing since the Nov. 3 election.
Sojourner has now posted a message on her Facebook page in which it appears she is conceding defeat.
