Out-of-state tuition waiver signed

Mississippi’s higher education officials are celebrating a new law that will allow universities to waive out-of-state tuition, leveling the playing field so they can compete with institutions in bordering states.

Administrators at each university now must craft business plans that will satisfy specific enrollment goals and present them as early as next month to the College Board for approval.

House Bill 1095 is one of several measures Gov. Phil Bryant recently signed into law addressing issues in the state’s higher education system. It goes into effect July 1.
