Congressman Steven M. Palazzo Sworn into Office
“It’s time we put South Mississippi families first.”
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steven M. Palazzo (MS-4) issued the following statement after being sworn into office today, January 5, 2011, on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives:
“This is an important day for our country and South Mississippi. I am proud to be part of a conservative majority committed to restoring the public’s trust in government by stopping the out of control spending and working towards a smaller government accountable to the American people.
“I am honored to serve the people of the Fourth District and will work tirelessly to create jobs and defend our freedoms. It’s time we put South Mississippi families first.’”
Congressman Palazzo was joined for today’s swearing-in by his family. Palazzo, a Persian Gulf War veteran, will serve as a member of the Armed Service committee as well as the Science and Technology committee. The House Armed Services committee is responsible for authorizing funding for and overseeing the Department of Defense. The Science and Technology committee has jurisdiction over NASA, marine research, as well as various science education initiatives.
NOTE: Congressman Palazzo is scheduled to take a ceremonial swearing-in photograph with Speaker Boehner at approximately 7:15 pm ET on Wednesday. A photograph of the occasion will be released by this office shortly thereafter.
