The Ole Miss Sponsored Childers Rally…
The invocation came from a preacher who prayed that Childers is re-elected and the stimulus works. I have also read that state Rep. Steve Holland was on stage.
Former Provost Carolyn Staton was there. I suppose she could have been there in an official role as a former high ranking staff member of the university; but she was also very comfortable at a Democratic rally.
It doesn’t take much to realize this was not some civic event on the importance of voting but a purely political campaign rally. Without many facts yet here is what looks to have happened: Either the Democrats who organized this lied to the Ole Miss administration about the purpose of the event (see the Ole Miss presser) or the university decided to sponsor a campaign rally for a Democratic politician up for re-election in less than three weeks.
I emailed Ole Miss before and during the event to try to get some clarification. Amazingly, no one else seems to be covering this angle. If Ole Miss does respond, we’ll post what they have to say.
