Statewide legislative races lack gut issues

By: Magnolia Tribune - May 23, 2007

The Leader Call, 5/20/7

While the overall outcome of the legislative elections ? i.e., which party controls the House and Senate when the voting is done ? is a compelling question, the individual races appear more a referendum on that question than on any gut issues or any particular policy differences.

The Republicans control the state Senate by a 27-to-25 margin. The Democrats control the House by a 75-to-47 split with a 15-vote swing standing between the GOP and dominance of the entire legislative branch of government.
