Eaves Campaign Gears Up With Fundraising, Staffing Candidate invests own resources to seed campaign

The Eaves for Governor Campaign announces that it will file on Thursday financial reports showing $1.1 million cash on-hand. The report will also show that the candidate has invested $1.3 million of his own money to seed the campaign.

?I have spent my career protecting the rights of hardworking, taxpaying, God-fearing Mississippians,? said John Arthur Eaves, Jr. ?I am humbled by the opportunity to fight for progressive change in leadership and against those who feed off the public trust. I will continue to give all of myself and ask Mississippians who share my values to give of their time and money to support my campaign. As Governor, I will serve selflessly, putting the interests of citizens, including our children, ahead of big money special interests.?

Most campaign expenditures have been for Christian radio ad placement, infrastructure, and staff, including a mix of local Mississippians and professional political staffers. Sandra Shelson, former executive director of The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi, has been hired as Campaign Chair and will focus on developing policy and building constituency coalitions. Prior to joining The Partnership, Shelson spent 11 years working for former Mississippi Attorney General Mike Moore, where she most recently headed the Children?s Division.

John Robinson, a California native whose political experience includes managing Lt. Governor Lucy Baxley?s campaign for Alabama Governor last year and Deputy Campaign Manager for John Edwards? 2004 Presidential bid, has been hired as Campaign Manager. Sharon Garrison, former communications director for The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi, has been hired as press secretary.

The Eaves campaign has also contracted with Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, one of the world’s premier research and strategic consulting firms.

?This campaign is an opportunity for Mississippians to choose a new kind of leadership for our great state,? Eaves added. ?I look forward to bridging the divide of partisanship that has crippled the political process in Mississippi and caused harm to its people, namely children. I will walk in faith as I deliver a promise of hope and health to all Mississippians.?
