Former Columbus Mayor Jeffery Rupp will run as a Republican Nominee for Secretary of State. After going to work for Mississippi State University as director of community and government relations under “Doc” Fogelsong, Rupp will seek to return to elective office, this time on a state level.
Rupp is a known quantity in North Mississippi with good Republican credentials and should draw well in the Golden Triangle area and points north and west towards DeSoto county, absent another candidate from that area.
Several names have been mentioned, but sources tell MississippiPolitics.com today that Rupp is committed to run for the seat.
Though it was rumored that Senator Mike Cheney might seek the seat after announcing he would not run again for the Senate, Cheney has since quelled those rumors.
