Palazzo continues efforts to end robocalls

By: Sarah Ulmer - December 10, 2019

According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), an estimated 4.7 billion robocalls were placed in May 2019 alone. That is an average of 152 million calls per day. In addition to being a frustration, nearly 50% of those calls were scammers. Palazzo said this is why this Congress he voted in favor of several pieces of legislation to crackdown on this abuse and hold those behind these calls responsible.

Just last week Palazzo voted for S. 151, the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence Act. If signed into law, the legislation would require the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to create a rule making framework to help protect a subscriber from receiving unwanted calls from an unauthenticated number. It also mandates that the Department of Justice and the FCC create an interagency working group to regularly study what measures can be implemented to better protect consumers from unwanted calls.

Palazzo said he was proud to support the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence Act, and will continue to support legislation that works to keep Mississippi residents protected from unwanted calls and safe from fraud.
