Last week Governor Bryant announced the creation of the Complete County Committee and the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Census 2020.
Around March of 2020 all Mississippi residents will begin receiving a post card with information on how to submit all of the members of their household in the census.
“This is not something that happens overnight, it is not easy, but it can be done and it must be done,” said Bryant. Bryant emphasized the importance of the census and the need to make sure every person, even children in a home, are counted.

The census is required every 10 years and determines the federal governments distribution of over $600 billion. It also decides how many congressional representatives the state has in Washington.
Bryant was joined by individuals like Mayor of Jackson, Chokwe Lumumba. He said the environment of mayors and city officials is imperative to ensure that everyone is counted.
“April 1st everyone breathing on U.S. soil needs to be counted,” said Maroiyn Stephens, Regional Head with the U.S. Census Bureau. She said there are more than 130 programs that are funded based on these numbers.
“The money doesn’t follow the need, the money follows the numbers,” said Stephens. “So everyone stand up, and be counted.”
