White to be sworn in as State Auditor
Shad White will be sworn in as the 42nd State Auditor by State Supreme Court Chief Justice Bill Waller today at 8:30am in the Old Mississippi Supreme Court Chambers in the Capital.
Governor Phil Bryant appointed White to replace longtime Auditor Stacey Pickering who recently resigned.

CLARION LEDGER – Comedian fools Trent Lott, other politicians into appearing to back arming toddlers
Former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott filmed an ad supporting a fictional program that calls for arming “gifted” children ages 4 through 12.
He is among several current and former Republican lawmakers that British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, in disguise as an Israeli anti-terror expert and self-proclaimed “Terrorist Terminator, fooled into appearing in a segment about arming preschoolers for his new Showtime series “Who Is America?”…
…Contacted by the Clarion Ledger on Monday, Lott said, “I don’t even know who this guy is. Who is this guy? I don’t even remember talking to him.
“They set you up. I was talking about children being trained what to do if they have an incident.
“Here we have a Supreme Court nomination, the president meeting with Russian, but this is what we’re talking about.
“I remember when I first went to Congress in 1973. John Stennis was assaulted and shot in the abdomen by a robber. When I got in that morning, came out of the cloakroom, the first thing the press asked was not how is Sen. Stennis doing, but what my position on gun control was now. We didn’t know whether John Stennis was going to live or die at the time, but that was the question they had.”
WTOK – Hyde-Smith: Infrastructure upgrades approved for Lauderdale County
According to a news release from the office of Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith,
the USDA has approved a loan to Southwest Lauderdale Water Association to build a backup well.
SWLWA will use $2.56 million for a second 600 gallons-per-minute well as a backup to an existing well. The loan will also be used to expand and upgrade wastewater treatment operations and replace undersized water mains. The work is expected to improve service for more than 3,600 water customers.
“Water infrastructure that is up to modern standards is important to the quality of life in rural communities, and pivotal in attracting and sustaining economic growth,” Hyde-Smith said. “I’m pleased USDA Rural Development is investing in Mississippi, where need remains significant throughout the state.”
