Hal Marx is making a run for Jackson in 2019. The Petal mayor confirmed to WDAM on Thursday morning he’s planning to run for governor of Mississippi.
Marx said he will make an official announcement in the coming weeks.
“Simply looking at the state of our country, the state of our state, listening to people who are frustrated by our government, they want a voice. I feel like I will be a good representation of the average Mississippian, the people in the middle class, the people who sometimes feel like they have lost their voice,” said Marx.

Democrat Jay Hughes of Oxford is announcing he will run for Mississippi Lieutenant Governor in 2019.
Hughes has served in the Mississippi House since 2016. As a businessman and real estate attorney, Hughes says he’s ready to take a common sense approach and transparency to the Lieutenant Governor’s office.
CLARION LEDGER – Counties suing governor claim bridge closures politically motivated, endanger citizens
Jasper and Smith counties are suing Gov. Phil Bryant, the Mississippi Department of Transportation and others over the recent emergency closure of county bridges, saying it was politically motivated and endangers residents.
Attorney J.D. Sanford of Marc E. Brand and Associates filed the lawsuit Thursday in Hinds County Chancery Court on behalf of the boards of supervisors for both counties. In a statement, Sanford said the counties believe Bryant’s emergency declaration and state closure of more than 100 county bridges was “motivated by politics, not by the concern for the traveling public’s safety.”
The counties claim the action was state overreach into counties’ state constitutional jurisdiction and that Bryant exceeded his authority under emergency declaration law. They claim it has caused hardships for residents and businesses and endangered them by limiting or slowing access for emergency responders.

Former Alcorn County Deputy Justice Court Clerk Arrested for Embezzlement
Today, Special Agents from the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor arrested Jeanette Tullis for embezzlement. She was also issued a demand for $4,140.00, which includes principal, investigative costs, and interest.
Tullis is a former Alcorn County Deputy Justice Court Clerk. She began her employment at the Justice Clerk’s office in January 2002 and has since resigned.
State Auditor Stacey Pickering said, “While it is unfortunate that she has betrayed the trust of her community, hopefully, this money will be repaid to the citizens of Alcorn County quickly.”
Tullis was released from custody after paying $10,000 bond.
