April state revenue collections dismal
Mississippi’s tax collections, sluggish for more than a year, took a dramatic nosedive in April.
As a result of the dismal April collections, unless revenue collections dramatically increase before the end of the fiscal year on June 30, the state will collect less in recurring revenue than the previous year for only the fourth time since 1970.
Through April, recurring collections – not counting unanticipated funds from the settlement of lawsuits by Attorney General Jim Hood – are $79.8 million or 1.82 percent less than the amount collected during the same time period last year.
