Hill wants miscarried, aborted infants to receive proper burial; Fillingane pushes elected State Sup

Abortion burial regulations

Sen. Angela Burks Hill, R-Picayune, introduced a bill that would provide new regulations on babies who have been miscarried or aborted and their mothers.

The “Mississippi Unborn Infants Dignity Act” would require miscarried, stillborn or aborted infants to receive a proper burial and their death to be reported and issuance of a death certificate.

The bill would also forbid the sale or transfer of any infant remains from an abortion and criminalize any violations of the act.

…Elected state superintendent

While many legislators are proposing changing school district superintendents in Mississippi from elected to appointed, Sen. Joey Fillingane, R-Sumrall, introduced a bill to require the state superintendent of education to change to an elected position and to require that the superintendent have lived in the state for at least 15 years.

Currently, the state superintendent is appointed by the state Board of Education.
