Rep. Zuber’s bill would incorporate incentive funding into educational accountability model

Mississippi bill would reward high-performing schools

A bill tying academic performance to school districts’ funding may change the conversation at the Capitol from school choice and the Mississippi Adequate Education Program to another issue entirely.

Rep. Hank Zuber, R-Ocean Springs, has authored a bill that would incorporate incentive funding into the current educational accountability model.

If passed, school districts could receive up to $100 more per student for showing improvement on the previous year’s tests, offering International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement courses, and the number of high-performing teachers serving as mentors for other teachers in their subject area, among other criteria.
