Grenada Star – Political parties should pay for primaries
Three Hinds County supervisors have been defying state law by refusing to fund (and schedule) a primary election, saying there is not enough money in the till to cover the $67,000 exercise.
Mississippi Atty. Gen. Jim Hood says the law is clear — counties must fund special elections. The Hinds board is apparently taking a cue from the Obama Administration — picking and choosing what laws to enforce, what laws to ignore, and what laws to make up via Executive Order.
Some believe the Hinds County defiance is actually an attempt to keep the present board intact, but no matter what the reason, the law is clear.
The law is clear, but it is a bad law.
