Round 3 for Cooper-Stokes, Jackson in Ward 3 election today
Maybe three is just the magic number.
Ward 3 voters in Jackson today will have a third chance to elect their favorite City Council candidate, after a special election in February could not produce a true majority winner and the results of the runoff were thrown out by a jury.
For sitting Councilwoman LaRita Cooper-Stokes, it’ll be the third chance this year to prove that she is the voters’ true pick to succeed her husband, Kenneth Stokes, in the seat. He resigned in December to become a Hinds County supervisor.
For challenger Joyce Jackson, it’ll be her chance to show the prior two elections didn’t pick the real winner – that the results of the first were skewed by a crowded field and the runoff was marred by illegal behavior.
