Officials outraged by MDOC early release

Jones County Assistant District Attorney J. Ronald Parrish is once again outraged by the Mississippi Department of Corrections’ (MDOC) decision to release a convicted criminal who has not served his full sentence.

On Wednesday, Parrish said he received an official notice from MDOC that “convicted killer” Jason Creel was released and is now living in an adjoining county.

Creel, 28, was convicted of manslaughter in Jones County Circuit Court for the Aug. 13, 2001 shooting death of 36-year-old William Davis Guy.

“He shot Mr. Guy in the back,” said Parrish. “Mr. Guy was a husband and father who was shot down for absolutely nothing.”

Parrish said Creel entered a guilty plea in February 2004 and was sentenced to 20 years.
