Thompson’s foes facing uphill battle
WASHINGTON — The two candidates who hope to unseat Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson have lots of enthusiasm for taking the 2nd District in a new direction, but so far they don’t have much money.
Greenville Mayor Heather McTeer and Cobby Mondale Williams, a motivational speaker and political novice, say the district is ready for a change after 18 years of representation by Thompson.
“There are so many needs for more resources in this district,” McTeer said. “We can’t stay in the same way and the same pattern that we’ve been in for so long.”
Williams said his 2012 congressional bid is about “a new face and new ideas.”
