Brett Favre must play better

“The timing was a little bit off,” Favre said, after the Vikings fell to the Saints, 14-9, in the NFL season-opener that had far fewer offensive fireworks than expected. “Three or four throws, I just missed. A couple of reads I should have made differently. If I do that, I think it’s a different ballgame.”

Favre’s performance was ordinary (15-for-27, 171 yards, one touchdown, one interception), and ordinary quarterback play does not win championships, not in today’s NFL. When Favre decided to come back for another season, many questioned if he could play as well as he did in 2009. Watching this game will do nothing to ease those concerns. Favre rushed some throws, and he simply missed others.
