Tuberville’s ’04 team deserves title
When Texas Tech signed Tommy Tuberville to be its new football coach the university knew it had inked a national championship caliber coach. His record, particularly at Auburn, proved this. Now, however, in the wake of the NCAA meting out devastating penalties, including forfeiture of its victories in 2004, to the Southern Cal football program, Tuberville may be a championship head coach in more than just theory.
At least, he should be.
The NCAA found a culture of entitlement and privilege for star athletes at Southern Cal, which allowed Heisman Trophy-winner Reggie Bush to receive lavish gifts from a pair of fledgling sports marketers who hoped to sign him. Furthermore, NCAA investigators did not find it credible that USC coaches and administrators were unaware of these flagrant NCAA violations.
