In the stormy case of Jackson Mayor Frank Melton and Michael Recio, the sun came out for their supporters around nightfall Thursday.
“You live to fight another day,” said Stephanie Parker-Weaver, human resource officer for the Department of Public Works and special projects manager for Melton.
Parker-Weaver smiled as she left the federal courtroom around 6:20 p.m., shortly after jurors asked the judge to let them sleep on a verdict one more night.
“No news is good news,” Parker-Weaver said.
Demetrice Recio, Michael Recio’s wife, said, “I feel fine,” as she shot past reporters lurking on the courthouse steps.
The two men face federal civil rights charges related to the demolition of a duplex Melton said was a “crack house.”
Because of Melton’s crime-fighting stance, Vernon Perry of Jackson stands by him “100 percent,” he said in the courthouse Thursday.
