Langston: Scruggs didn’t pay me

Langston: Scruggs didn’t pay me

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 20, 2009

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, 2/20/9

Former Booneville attorney Joey Langston says Richard “Dickie” Scruggs failed to pay him the $3 million he was promised for helping in a judicial bribery conspiracy.

But even though he didn’t get the money from the noted ex-attorney, Langston did pay what was due to another person reportedly involved in the case, he says in a sworn statement filed this week in U.S. District Court in Oxford.

More than a year ago, Langston pleaded guilty to conspiring to bribe Hinds County Circuit Judge Bobby DeLaughter. He was trying to get a favorable ruling for Scruggs against attorney W. Roberts Wilson Jr., who claimed Scruggs owed him millions in legal fees from national asbestos lawsuits.

Ultimately, DeLaughter ruled that Scruggs didn’t owe Wilson any more than he’d already paid him.
