AU still aiming at top receiver
Prep star expected to visit the Plains this weekend
AUBURN – Not long after he was hired at Auburn, new coach Gene Chizik talked of hitting “home runs” on every weekend recruiting visit.
Today, only four days before National Signing Day, is his final chance to knock one out of the park.
The biggest target – receiver Rueben Randle – might be the toughest to land of the dozen or so prospects expected to arrive Friday night and today. But his presence alone is an indication that Chizik’s new staff hasn’t shrunk from pursuing top players.
Randle, from Bastrop, La., is the consensus top receiver in the nation and is rated by many analysts as the top overall prospect at any position. He was scheduled to visit two weeks ago but canceled, and his arrival – or non-arrival – was being monitored by message boards well into Friday night.
