Mike Easley, retiring Democratic governor of North Carolina who set out a broad education agenda during his term.

Ronnie Musgrove, former Democratic governor of Mississippi and unsuccessful candidate for Senate in November. His campaign Web site promises he would “fight for better education the Mississippi Way.”
