Surgery sidelines Jackson mayor

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 20, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 11/20/8

Jackson Mayor Frank Melton is expected to be out of the office for the rest of the week, recovering from surgery.

But officials are not saying much about why Melton was hospitalized at St. Dominic Hospital on Tuesday and underwent surgery the following morning.

Melton has been in and out of the hospital with heart problems in recent years.

City spokeswoman Goldia Revies wouldn’t describe the surgery but said the procedure wasn’t related to Melton’s previous heart problems.

But Councilman Frank Bluntson, a close friend of Melton’s, said he had heard the surgery was related to Melton’s defibrillator.
