Calipari’s still got the fire, eight years later
On Nov. 19, 2000, John Calipari won his first game as head coach of the Memphis Tigers and people wondered how long he’d last.
One year? Three years? Five years at the outside?
He would be here and be gone. Everybody knew that.
Which just goes to show how much everybody knows, doesn’t it?
Because there was Calipari Saturday night, eight years after win No. 1, stomping and cajoling and begging and hollering and grimacing and mocking and applauding and teaching his way to win No. 220 — a 93-60 romp over Fairfield — which ties him with Larry Finch for most wins in Memphis history.
