REBELS:Familiar tale for Rebels as turnovers hamper effort
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – At the House of Bear, where the ghost of former Alabama coach Paul “Bear” Bryant still stirs, the ghosts of losses past were painfully haunting for Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon.
The Rebels turned the ball over three times, two of them leading to 10 points, in a 24-20 loss to No. 2 Alabama before 92,138 fans at sold-out Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The turnovers overshadowed a second-half comeback in which the Rebels scored 17 unanswered points to rally from a 24-3 halftime deficit.
Ole Miss began its final possession at its 24 with 3 minutes, 3 seconds remaining. Quarterback Jevan Snead drove the team to the Alabama 43, but on fourth-and-5 he was hurried by a safety blitz and couldn’t get the ball downfield to wide receiver Dexter McCluster.
The second-half surge helped the Rebels (3-4, 1-3 SEC) become the first team this season to rush for 100 yards against the Crimson Tide (7-0, 4-0), as they finished with 158 yards on 34 attempts.
