A 53-space parking lot has been holding up development of two hotels and two parking garages planned for construction across the street from the downtown Jackson convention center.
But now, following talk of an eminent domain takeover, a deal involving taxpayer money might help the project proceed.
Mayor Frank Melton said he has helped broker a tentative agreement between the parking lot’s owner, Sam Kazery, and the man with a long-term lease on the property, George Wilkinson.
He said the deal involves city money and that he plans to take it to the Jackson City Council for a vote today. He did not release details of the deal.
“It’s just to facilitate it, to get it going, so we can start on the hotel,” Melton said Friday.
